A blessing: May the nature-of-things hold you in the palm of its hand.
My brother was married in July of 1989, and I was his best man. I went on a road trip to Maine with a friend over the July 4th weekend, and wrote this as a wedding toast along the way. (I remember practicing it outside our tent at a campground.) I sang it at the reception the following week, then recorded it in a few takes after I got home.
lyrics
the river knows the way it’s flowing:
may its peace forever flow in you.
no one stops the wind from blowing,
though its blowing’s gentle: so with you.
may the wind be always in your hair,
may the river be always in your view,
and as the wind and river know themselves,
so may it always be with you.
