I started singing these two verses while walking a neighbor’s dog during the COVID-19 quarantine.

I sang them quietly to the dog for many months, and it became a kind of chant. So I decided to record it that way.

The recording session was particularly simple: one pass of guitar and vocals, two of electric guitar, and one of a sampled accordion. I edited those four tracks lightly, but mostly you’re hearing what I played the first time I sat down to figure out how to record it.

lyrics

i'm a stranger here
i'm not native to these shores
my footprints pass away before too long
there's no danger here for me
i'm just walking through these chores
and by the time i'm finished with this song
i'll be gone

let the sun warm your hands
let the darkness eat your bones
let the rain wash your cheeks
going home, going home:
this is home
